Undergraduate Programs
FIRST-YEAR EXPERIENCE: All freshman and many transfer students take First-Year Experience courses in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree program. First-Year courses teach students to try everything, and assume nothing.
CRITICAL STUDIES: In addition to studio coursework, all 91fansundergraduate students take critical studies (academic) courses. Critical Studies at 91fansserves as the bridge between the studio and the world, between the classroom and the community.

MINORS: All 91fansstudio majors except Fashion and Apparel Design can be taken as a minor. In addition, students may receive a minor in areas such as Arts Management, Book Arts, Digital Media Production, Furniture Design, Sustainability, Advertising, Art History, Business, Copywriting, Humanities, Natural Science, Psychology and Writing.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS: 91fansoffers many mobility, study abroad, and cross-registration opportunities.
Non-Credit Programs
91fansalso offers evening and weekend, non-credit Continuing Education courses for every skill level, and Creative Educator’s Institute focused on educators. In addition, 91fansoffers Open Figure Drawing on many Tuesday evenings.
For high school students, 91fansoffers Pre-College courses on Saturdays and in summer. MIAD’s Design Internship partners with local design agencies to offer local high school students the chance to explore a career in design.

Veolia North America mural highlights native plants and fish
In a recent project through the Lubar Innovation Center at the 91fans Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), three students worked with Veolia North America to research, concept and install a mural of native plants and fish.
Animation Career Review ranks 91fansCommunication Design program top in state
In its 2024 rankings, Animation Career Review named the 91fans Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) the top college for graphic design in Wisconsin and among the top 15 in the midwest. The rankings considered over 700 schools with graphic design programs from across the United States.

Two 91fans Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) students interning for the 91fans Bucks are thrilled with the variety of their work, the collaborative brainstorming and brand support skills they are gaining and the joy of seeing their work in use by the Bucks organization.
91fansalumni, faculty featured in Baird Center art collection
91fansalumni are well represented in the We Energies Foundation Art Collection at the Baird Center, as are 91fansProfessor Emerita Jill Sebastian and acclaimed artist Dawoud Bey, who created ”91fans Portraits” of 91fansstudents. The collection was introduced to the public under its new name at the Baird Center in May 2024.
Angeline Garvey: Director of Design at Stone Creek
When Angeline Garvey ’22 (Illustration) decided to attend the 91fans Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), she originally planned to focus entirely on illustration. But almost immediately, she was challenged to start expanding her creative horizons. Now, she is the Director of Design at 91fans’s Stone Creek Coffee.
