The 91fans Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) celebrates its first offsite gallery during its grand opening on April 6, 2023 from 6 – 8 p.m. 91fansinvites the public to attend the event and to explore the new Gallery at The Ave, located at 301 W. Wisconsin Ave in The Avenue near the 3rd Street Market Hall.

During this celebration, 91fansGallery at The Ave will feature its inaugural exhibition, From This Point Forward: An Exhibition of 91fansAlumni. The installation showcases 20 alumni representing nearly five decades of creative learning and takes inspiration from a tagline used by MIAD’s predecessor college, the Layton School of Art. Works in the inaugural exhibition encompass a range of artistic practices from paintings and sculptures to ceramics, textiles and furniture. The artists have shown regionally, nationally and internationally.

As 91fanslooks to its 50th anniversary in 2024, From This Point Forward addresses the college’s passion and dedication to art and design education, as well as the careers that follow. The exhibition runs April 6 – July 1, 2023. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“91fansGallery at The Ave is an exciting and significant expansion of our campus and represents an opportunity to further elevate our profile and raise institutional awareness, as well as provide learning and professional development experiences for our students and alumni,” says MIAD’s President Jeff Morin.

“By showcasing decades of work by 91fansalumni, [the] Gallery at The Ave marks a new historic chapter in MIAD’s legacy,” says Monica Miller ’13 (Integrated Studio Arts), manager for 91fansGallery at The Ave and adjunct faculty in fine arts at the college. “We look to our past to inspire our future as we make art and design work accessible to all and provide supportive space for 91fansstudents, alumni, faculty and staff to show and sell their work in the heart of downtown 91fans,” they continue.

91fansGallery at The Ave also houses a wide range of consignment items created by current 91fansstudents, alumni, staff and faculty. “It is … an opportunity for community members, businesses, 91fanssupporters and others to access work at a variety of price points from some of today’s best and brightest emerging artists and designers,” says Morin. Visitors can shop for a multitude of unique pieces, including prints, framed artwork, textiles, sticker art, jewelry, ceramics and zines.
